Who are we? And what are we up to?
Early spring of 2004 found some of us getting our bikes out, pumping up our tires, but wanting more...And so, a group of people got together who love cycling and the beautiful rides in this area, and Cambridge Valley Cycling was started. We rode separately, we rode together, we rode in the early morning. During scheduled group rides, wonderful things happened: we learned from each other, we supported and encouraged each other, and we realized we were riding better.
During the past seven years, we've:
-
Held rides twice a week, for both casual and serious riders
-
Supported the Cambridge Balloon Festival Classic and Tour of the Battenkill races
-
Hosted our Fall Benefit Ride complete with support, lunch, and great raffle prizes
-
Developed a set of maps and cue cards for over 20 local rides in and around beautiful Washington County, New York
-
Sponsored an overnight trip from Salem to Lake George, with sag support
-
Enjoyed a canoe/kayak trip on the Battenkill followed by a barbeque picnic
-
Participated in the Great Finger Lakes Bike Tour
-
Fielded a team for the American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure
We've donated to the following groups/charities:
-
Cambridge, Greenwich and Salem, NY rescue squads
-
Road to Recovery (an American Cancer Society program providing local cancer patients transportation to treatment)
-
Pedals for Progress (rescues bicycles destined for overburdened U.S. landfills and ships them to developing countries where they are sorely needed and highly valued)
-
The Cambridge Library
-
Books in Kids Hands and B.O.O.K.S. (two not-for-profit organizations dedicated to promoting literacy by providing quality children's literature in Washington, Warren, and Saratoga counties in New York)
Whatever your ability level and experience, we'd like you to take part in the group rides and the good fellowship of a group of friends and neighbors, brought together by a love of cycling and a desire to share our enthusiasm with others.
